Liverpool fans flock to Bellingham latest

Flocking to social media, many Liverpool fans have erupted as reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano shares a message surrounding target Jude Bellingham (Twitter).

Jurgen Klopp’s side have started the 2021/2022 season in fine form and are well in contention to grab the Premier League title back off current champions Manchester City.

The Reds suffered their fair share of injury woes combined with poor form last year but they have begun their road to redemption in electric fashion this time round.

Scoring 37 goals in all competitions already this season, their last Premier League outing, in which they thrashed bitter rivals Man United 5-0 at Old Trafford, only sums up their current run of form.

However, as the Reds set one eye on the future, reliable reporter Romano has shared a message on Twitter from Borussia Dortmund head of first team Sebastian Kehl.

It concerns Bellingham, who has reportedly been at the centre of interest from FSG, with it looking like Kehl has now confirmed those reports.

He explained to Sport 1 (via Romano): “There’s lot of interest around Jude Bellingham, not only Liverpool. But there is no bottom line and no exit clause. He is loved, he enjoys that. There are no signs he could leave BVB soon.”

Flocking to what one fan has called ‘interesting’ news, many Reds supporters have erupted on Twitter.

Crystal Palace linked to Abdul Mumin

Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Vitoria Guimaraes defender Abdul Mumin as new manager Patrick Vieira looks to complete the overhaul of his first-team squad.

What’s the story?

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola (as relayed by Sport Witness), the Eagles have recently been scouting the highly-rated 23-year-old ahead of a potential move.

The report states that: “Several clubs have been sending scouts to watch him in action for Vitória, where he’s been impressing since joining the club last year.

“Crystal Palace are said to be one of those who recently ‘made sure’ to send an official and get more information on the athlete, as they study an ‘eventual’ attempt for the signing.”

However, the south London outfit are expected to face stiff competition for Mumin’s signature, with fellow Premier League sides Leicester City, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur all credited with an interest.

Vieira needs him

The 6 foot 2 beast only arrived at Guimaraes in August 2020 from Danish side Nordsjaelland – who are renowned for producing several top young talents – but he’s already made a big impression.

In his 25 top-flight outings last term, Mumin averaged a whopping 3.8 clearances, the second-highest total amongst his teammates, as well as 0.7 tackles and 0.7 interceptions, as per WhoScored.

During his short career, the Ghanaian has shown glimpses of his top-class potential, and with a market value of just £1.8m, he could be a bargain addition to Vieira’s relatively threadbare squad.

Currently, only veteran centre-back James Tomkins is a natural backup to the first-choice pairing of Joachim Andersen and Marc Guehi, meaning Palace will need added reinforcements at the heart of defence over the coming transfer windows.

Therefore, director of football Steve Parish must sanction a swoop for the defender, providing Vieira with a plethora of options along his backline.

Mumin may not be a household name or a popular choice amongst the fanbase, but he would certainly be a value for money signing, leaving plenty of room in the capital club’s budget for further acquisitions.

Milivojevic out for Palace v Brentford

New Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira will be looking to pick up his first points in charge of the Eagles when they host newly-promoted Brentford this afternoon.

The Frenchman’s reign in south London got off to a poor start when the Eagles were seen off 3-0 by Chelsea last weekend, but he may be confident of a better result this time around.

What’s the word?

Palace had to cope without several first team players for their trip to Stamford Bridge last weekend, and Vieira confirmed that club captain Luka Milivojevic will also play no part in today’s clash.

“Luka is not gonna be available. He had his personal reason,” the manager revealed in Friday’s press conference.

The absence of their talismanic midfielder will be a big blow for the capital club, but there is some positive fitness news as James Tomkins and summer signing Joachim Andersen are available for selection.

“James trained the last couple of days with the group, so he will be involved in the game tomorrow,” said Vieira, who admitted that Andersen’s return to action will offer greater flexibility, stating: “Yeah, that will. Having those players getting fitter – it’s nice for Joachim to play half an hour. His first game since the Euros, that will give options and flexibility at the back.”

Vieira also confirmed that Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher is in line to make his competitive debut for Palace after being unable to play against his parent club on the opening weekend of the season. The Eagles boss said: “Yeah, he’s going to be in the squad. Obviously looking forward to Conor’s first game for us. Will bring us different strengths. Had a really good week, so he will be in the squad.”

Vieira will be gutted over Milivojevic

Despite the positive news surrounding Tomkins, Andersen and Gallagher, Vieira must be gutted to be without his captain and midfield general Milivojevic.

The Serbia international offers stability and a solid base for the Eagles from which to build in the middle of the park, attributes which were desperately missing from their performance last time out against Chelsea. His tackling average of 2.1 per game last season, the fourth-highest in the squad, set the tone from the midfield engine room.

It should be a memorable afternoon for Vieira, who is taking charge of his first home game as a Premier League manager, and he’ll be hoping to mark the occasion with a positive result. It may be harder to obtain without Milivojevic, though.

Manchester United: Fans slam Wan-Bissaka display

A number of Manchester United fans hit out at right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka for his performance against Young Boys on Wednesday.

Ralf Rangnick made several changes to his squad with United already through, with eight players in the squad below the age of 20.

Wan-Bissaka was one of 11 changes to the starting line-up, making his 18th appearance of the campaign in the 1-1 draw and needed to be stretched off after colliding with the advertising boards towards full time.

However, plenty of United fans didn’t like what they saw from the 24-year-old at Old Trafford. The full-back lost possession on 19 occasions, the most out of any home player. [SofaScore]

He also failed to complete a cross or make a key pass all evening, with Luke Shaw on the opposite side registering an assist for Mason Greenwood early on.

This is what these United fans had to say about Wan-Bissaka on social media, with many wanting him sold and another believing he won’t survive the Rangnick era.

“I don’t mean to be horrible, truly I don’t, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka has just produced the most horrific disasterclass of a performance I have ever seen. He is absolutely awful. Don’t even wait for the summer, just sell him in January.”

Pundit says Saints could afford Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham

Former Nottingham Forest striker Nigel Jemson has exclusively told Football FanCast that Tammy Abraham needs to be playing regularly again – and said that Southampton could afford him by paying in instalments.

Abraham has been linked to several Premier League sides with his future at Chelsea now in serious doubt, especially with Romelu Lukaku close to returning to Chelsea.

But Southampton’s need is greater than most of their Premier League rivals after losing talisman and topscorer Danny Ings to Aston Villa earlier this week following months of uncertainty over his contract situation at St Mary’s.

However, whilst Saints banked around £25m for Ings’ services, Chelsea have set a £40m asking-price for Abraham, who’s just 23-years-old and has several years remaining on his Blues deal, which would appear out of their reach.

Ironically, Southampton’s record-signing was when Ings joined permanently from Liverpool back in 2019 for just under £27m, some way below what Chelsea are demanding for Abraham.

But Jemson suggested that Saints could fund the deal in instalments. He told FFC:

“They could pay £10m every four years, then they may be able to afford him. For Tammy Abraham, he’s got to get out, he’s missed out on England in the Euro’s.

“He’s got to get back playing, there’s nothing worse for a player. He may have to take a step back and take two steps forward again.”

Spurs handed boost in Pochettino hunt

Tottenham Hotspur have been given fresh hope in their bid to bring Mauricio Pochettino back to the club this week…

What’s the word?

According to Sunday Times journalist Duncan Castles, the Argentine is still trying to force an exit from his current club, Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, this summer.

Speaking on a recent episode of ‘The Transfer Window’ podcast, he said:

“He was obviously open to talking to Tottenham, Tottenham briefed that they were open to bringing him back.

“It seemed that Paris Saint-Germain’s actions had cut that path off.

“What I’m being told is that Pochettino is continuing to put pressure on Paris Saint-Germain, to put pressure on the Qatari owners, to allow him to leave this summer, regardless of Leonardo exercising that option, which has made it more expensive for him to get out.

“At least you have the potential that [Daniel] Levy can get the man back.”

One last chance?

Some two months on from when Jose Mourinho was sacked, Spurs are still no closer to knowing who their next manager will be and with pre-season due to begin in around ten days time, it’s a major cause for concern.

However, this latest claim from Castles should provide huge encouragement for both Daniel Levy and the Lilywhites faithful, as it seems like their pursuit of Pochettino is far from over – or at least, it could be time for one last push to try and secure him.

The North London outfit have been dealt blow after blow throughout their managerial search. It began by missing out on Julian Nagelsmann, who opted to join Bayern Munich instead, before missing out on names like Brendan Rodgers, Erik ten Hag, Antonio Conte and Paulo Fonseca.

Almost a month ago, The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke revealed that Levy had held talks with Pochettino over a sensational return to Tottenham but PSG were proving to be firm in their stance of keeping hold of him.

Indeed, they would go on to trigger the extension in his contract to all but end hopes of sealing the unthinkable, some 18 months after he was originally sacked by the club.

But this information from Castles gives the club renewed hope and that’ll leave supporters absolutely buzzing.

In reaction to The Athletic’s initial report in May, fans couldn’t contain their excitement as some compared it to being “like Chrismas Eve” whilst others were left “salivating uncontrollably” over the news, as relayed by This is Futbol in much more detail.

Pochettino arguably overachieved at Spurs, guiding them to three successive top-three finishes, in which the club failed to sign a player for 18 months, so there can’t be a better man to help get them back on track than the Argentine.

Perhaps there is a now small chance that he’s back in the dugout for 2020/21.

Ralph must start Jan Bednarek vs West Ham

Southampton host West Ham at St Mary’s on Saturday as they go in search of their first win of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

The Saints lost 3-1 to Everton on the opening day of the campaign before holding Manchester United and Newcastle to draws in their subsequent matches.

They are up against a Hammers side who have scored 10 goals in their three league games and amassed seven points, beating Newcastle and Leicester before drawing with Crystal Palace.

On the Chalkboard

Mohamed Salisu and Jack Stephens have started every game at centre-back so far and Southampton are yet to keep a clean sheet. This means that Ralph Hasenhuttl could be open to a change to the starting XI in that area of the pitch, potentially opening the door for Jan Bednarek to return to the team.

Of the aforementioned pair, Salisu has the higher match rating on SofaScore. He has averaged an impressive score of 7.03, whilst winning 65% of his duels and making two tackles per game. Meanwhile, Stephens has averaged a score of just 6.40, winning 52% of his duels and making one interceptions per game.

This suggests that Stephens’ position in the team could be at risk, as he has not been able to perform to as high of a standard as Salisu so far. The clash with West Ham this weekend presents Hasenhuttl with the opportunity to give £50k-per-week Bednarek an opportunity to show that he can outshine Stephens at the back.

Earlier this year, Hasenhuttl lauded the Poland international as a ‘firefighter’ for the way he defends the Southampton goal on the pitch. The Austrian told the Daily Echo: “He is robust. He is one of the best defensive fighters, I say always he’s a firefighter who really does everything to protect his own goal.

“I think the biggest development he made with the ball, he’s getting better and better with better decision making. Still not always the right one, but it’s getting better and better.”

This shows that Hasenhuttl has faith in the defender to go out and do a job, which is another reason why he must be unleashed against West Ham. If he can improve Southampton’s defence alongside Salisu, he could change the game for the Saints, as it may give his side a better chance of picking up a first league win of the season.

Bednarek averaged a solid SofaScore rating of 6.81 in the Premier League last term. He helped the Saints keep nine clean sheets as he managed 2.3 interceptions per game, which shows that he is capable of making a difference at the back at this level. Therefore, his presence could help Southampton to keep the Irons at bay, and including him instead of Stephens could prove to be a game-changing decision by Hasenhuttl if he goes for it.

Crystal Palace: Fans react to Daryl Dike transfer rumour

Orlando City forward Daryl Dike remains on the radar of Crystal Palace, with a swoop in the January transfer window potentially on the cards to bring him to south London according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon [via Inside Futbol].

The United States international has enjoyed a goal-laden 12 months, registering 12 goals in 28 appearances between his current club and his loan spell at Barnsley last season [Transfermarkt].

He is said to be still courting the attention of Crystal Palace, with the Eagles potentially looking to make a move for the striker in January [Alan Nixon].

Any move to acquire Dike would provide the Palace frontline with added strength following the signing of Odsonne Edouard from Celtic on transfer deadline day.

In light of these rumours, plenty of Crystal Palace fans took to Twitter to comment on the news. However, despite Dike’s rich vein of form in recent months, many failed to summon any excitement over the Eagles’ links with the 21-year-old.

Crystal Palace fans react

Replying to popular Crystal Palace fan outlet CPFC Transfers HQ on Twitter, here is what some fans had to say about Nixon’s update, with one supporter believing that Dike would be a “strange” signing given Patrick Vieira’s current depth of centre-forward options:

CPFC: Fans react to Nuno Espirito Santo latest

A number of Crystal Palace fans have been reacting on social media after reliable reporter Sam Wallace suggested a move for Nuno Espirito Santo has broken down.

Palace’s hunt for a new boss appeared to step up a gear on Tuesday after John Percy revealed the club were in advanced talks with Nuno.

The Eagles have been linked with a number of managers in recent months, including Sean Dyche, Frank Lampard and Eddie Howe, but it appeared as if the former Wolves gaffer was Palace’s man.

However, Wallace revealed on Wednesday morning that a potential move to Selhurst Park has broken down with both parties unable to reach an agreement despite extensive negotiations.

It now seems as if it is back to the drawing board for Steve Parish and the Palace hierarchy, who are looking to replace Roy Hodgson ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

It didn’t take long for these Eagles supporters to interact with Wallace’s post, with many sharing their distraught.

Leeds: Paul Robinson thinks Mateusz Klich could be left out vs Palace

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson thinks Mateusz Klich could be left out of Jesse Marsch’s starting line-up against Crystal Palace on Monday.

The Lowdown: Klich a regular

Klich has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season, taking his Leeds tally to 173.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-42/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 31-year-old has turned out as a defensive, central and attacking midfielder and is yet to miss a game under new boss Jesse Marsch.

He played alongside Robin Koch in the 3-0 win over Watford last time out but made way on the hour mark for Kalvin Phillips.

The Latest: Robinson’s reacts to Phillips image

Talking to MOT Leeds News after seeing an image of Phillips back in full training, Robinson, who contributes for Sky Sports, gave his thoughts on how Leeds’ midfield could shape up at Selhurst Park.

He believes Phillips, who was spotted in full flow at Thorp Arch this week, could make a first start since December alongside Koch, which would mean Klich would drop out.

“For me, Phillips and [Adam] Forshaw both come in if they’re fit and able to play 90 minutes.

“I know they played well at Watford so I don’t think both Phillips and Forshaw will come back in.

“Forshaw’s been out so he’ll probably have to get his game-time off the bench.

“Phillips should come in alongside either Klich or Koch.

“It’ll probably be alongside Koch if Jesse Marsch is going to play that way again.”

The Verdict: Right call?

Bringing back Phillips from the off could be a wise by Marsch move following Leeds’ 16-day break.

Klich also had an afternoon to forget at Vicarage Road last time out. As per SofaScore, he was Leeds’ worst-rated player in the 3-0 victory, losing possession 16 times and failing to complete any of his attempted long balls.

The central midfielder was also second best in nine of his 12 duels, so it could be a wise move to leave him out of the starting XI at Selhurst Park as Leeds look to take a step closer to safety.
