Liverpool fans go berserk over latest Timo Werner report

Fresh reports emerging about transfer target Timo Werner have sent many Liverpool fans into a frenzy as this saga appears to be rumbling on.

According to Bild Sport, via Sport Witness, the Reds ‘definitely want’ to sign the German forward but not at the price of his release clause, thought to be €55m (£49.3m).

It’s claimed that the Merseyside outfit will try to negotiate his price down in order to land him this summer.

And plenty at Anfield are far from happy with the news…

The 24-year-old continued his fine goal-laden campaign at the weekend by bagging a hat-trick against Mainz 05, taking his total for the season to 30 from only 38 appearances. He’s also provided 12 assists, via Transfermarkt.

That display wouldn’t have helped ease matters in the Liverpool camp as they are even more desperate to see him make the switch from the Bundesliga to Merseyside.

As a result of the Reds trying to lower Werner’s price, some supporters have taken aim at ownership group FSG as well as sporting director Michael Edwards for apparent “penny-pinching”.

The club’s stance over Werner has seemingly only heightened manager Jurgen Klopp’s status in Liverpool with fans claiming he’s doing wonders despite having his hands somewhat tied.

The Premier League’s front-runners have been long linked with a move for Werner and it appears as if some at Anfield are losing their patience as the saga continues to rumble on.

Liverpool exit was a mistake by Emre Can in hindsight

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

There are few players who have left Liverpool that have gone on to bigger and better things.

Arguably only Luis Alberto, who left Liverpool for £4.3m in 2016 and is now valued at £25.2m by Transfermarkt, has improved since leaving Anfield during Jurgen Klopp’s reign – he’s racked up nine assists in Serie A this term. The others have either fallen by the wayside and are long since forgotten, or are struggling to make an impact at their new, albeit big, clubs.

Emre Can falls into the second of those two categories. The Germany international left the Reds in the summer of 2018 after failing to sign a new contract on Merseyside. He said that he completed the switch to Juventus to compete for more trophies. Whilst he has picked up a Serie A medal, he would surely swap that for the Champions League one he would have picked up had he stayed with the English team.

Not only that, he will have been hoping to play a far bigger role in that league title victory. He made just 20 starts for the Old Lady in Italy’s top-flight last term, compared to 24 in his final season in the Premier League. This season, he has once again had to make do with a reduced role, with just one start under Maurizio Sarri.

The 25-year-old has been complaining about his situation in Turin, telling Kicker (via The Daily Mirror):

“I’m just an ambitious guy who always wants to compete at the highest level, but I’m also learning from this tough time when things are not going the way I was hoping. I’m not playing games from the start, so I’m not happy, but I will stay strong and keep working on myself. I’m often in the gym before or after training, doing extra shifts. I want to be ready.”

Now, the £29.7m-valued former Bayer Leverkusen man is even being linked with a move back to these shores. He’s reportedly been offered to Manchester United.

Whilst everything is clearer in hindsight, Can will surely be regretting his move south of the continent. Had he stayed at Liverpool, he would have given himself the chance to conquer all of Europe, writing himself into the folklore of one of the biggest teams in the world in the process.

Now, he will have to face the consequences of his decision, one which will presumably see him stay on the bench for the foreseeable future.

West Brom fans hail Gareth Barry after making his first appearance since injury

West Bromwich Albion remained at the top of the Championship table on Saturday afternoon as they managed a third straight league victory.

The Baggies defeated Sheffield Wednesday thanks to an 88th-minute spot-kick from substitute Charlie Austin.

Hal Robson-Kanu had opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes of the match before the Owls looked to have done enough to take a share of the spoils when Steven Fletcher scored a penalty of his own just before the hour mark.

But Austin remained calm and composed to slot home just his second goal of the season to hand Slaven Bilic’s side all three points, ensuring they also kept that two-point gap to Leeds United in second place.

The game also marked a momentous occasion for Gareth Barry as his introduction in the 74th minute signalled his first competitive appearance since his comeback from a potentially career-threatening injury.

Several of the Hawthorns faithful were quick to hail his impact on the game, even at the age of 38.

One supporter said Barry was exactly the type of player needed alongside their youthful exuberance while another believed he was the epitome of class.

A further member of the Baggies crowd claimed he made a big difference when he came on with one more fan stating that the veteran midfielder completely changed the flow of the game into their favour.

Barcelona fans react to Ernesto Valverde’s coach ranking

It’s pretty safe to say that Ernesto Valverde is not really one of the most beloved figures at Barcelona at this very moment.

The Basque coach has been a prime target of harsh criticism as of late and many of the fans don’t seem to want him in charge of their club.

Be that as it may, it turns out that according to Football World Rankings, Valverde is still the number one coach on the planet, even above the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.

Needless to say, as soon as they realised that was the case, many Barcelona fans simply couldn’t believe it and started slamming both the association that made the rankings and their coach himself.

One fan even stated that Florentino Perez, Real Madrid’s president, must be behind that whole thing as a way of rattling the Cules.

Man United vs Liverpool left Piers Morgan absolutely raging about VAR

Video assistant referee hasn’t made any friends after another eventful weekend in the Premier League.Leaving Jurgen Klopp on the verge of self-combustion, after Marcus Rashford’s goal was allowed to stand despite a dubious tackle on Divock Origi in the build-up, VAR was up to no good again during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool.Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Later in the game, Liverpool found themselves on the wrong end a VAR decision after Sadio Mane was deemed to have handled the ball before putting the ball past David de Gea. When the ‘no goal’ decision was announced, the roar from the Old Trafford crowd was as loud as it had been when Rashford bagged the opener.

Unlike a broken clock, which is occasionally right, Piers Morgan typically bounces between ‘wrong’ and ‘very wrong’. In his latest tweet, he might – for once – have had a valid point…

Leeds’ Patrick Bamford will have mixed emotions after seeing this image

Patrick Bamford didn’t have the best of evenings against Preston on Tuesday.

The striker squandered chance after chance at Deepdale as he hit all six of his attempts off target.

In the end, he was dragged off in the 76th minute, and to make things even worse, the man who he’s competing with for a starting spot scored with his only shot.

He and Eddie Nketiah have been vying for the role upfront in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting XI and after going eight games without finding the back of the net, he’s under colossal pressure.

As a result, seeing Nketiah score and become the hero again won’t have delighted him too much, certainly in terms of his potential game time.

Below are the scenes immediately after the 20-year-old headed home an equaliser, an image that will leave Bamford with incredibly mixed emotions – particularly as the strike was so important.

Guess how Bamford felt after this goal and seeing the celebration.

Of course, he’s going to be happy that his team has just equalised, but you can only imagine how he was truly feeling after the match.

The former Middlesbrough man was being slated by a number of Leeds fans on Twitter while his teammates will have been full of praise and euphoria for Nketiah.

Bamford will certainly be feeling a little different than most of his teammates after their visit to Deepdale.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher sees the positives in Napoli defeat

[ad_pod ]Liverpool fans may be feeling a bit down after watching their team lose 2-0 to Napoli in their Champions League opener, but it’s not all doom and gloom. If any Reds supporter needs a little boost to their mood after their defeat on Tuesday, they should just read Jamie Carragher’s thoughts on the match.

The Anfield legend took a number of positives from the game at the Stadio San Paolo and shared his thoughts on Twitter.

To be fair, it’s hard to argue with Carragher on a number of his points. The game against Napoli this week should represent the hardest game in the group stages, as Liverpool have also been drawn alongside Red Bull Salzburg and Genk, and Adrian’s save was indeed incredible.

Perhaps it’s not as bad as it seems, and Liverpool fans will have had their nerves calmed a bit by Carragher’s tweet.

It remains to be seen how the Reds will get on in the Champions League for the rest of the campaign, but the Sky Sports pundit certainly believes that there were positives to take away from their first game.
